Christmas Vacation Trivia
I can’t remember the square footage to our house, but I can remember obscure movie lines.
Well, it happens. I did my part last night at trivia night at the Cobblestone Ballroom, or The Cobb as the locals call it, conjuring up some movie magic along with our team (with a less than family-friendly team night that I probably shouldn’t mention here, but nevertheless, it was funny as all get out). The movie? Th modern classic,” National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”, ah yes.
Our little group of friends had some drinks, and the wonderful Cobb-styled pizza and nachos, over the course of three hours, relying on each other to place somewhere, I think, in the middle of the pack when it was all said and done, points wise.
It was a great night to blow off some steam, with some dressing the part. By my count, I saw three Cousin Eddies. Hats off to those who went the extra mile.
The week up here in the City Beautiful was hammered with single digit to subzero temps, as folks were coming off their Thanksgiving run with family and friends. Collectively, we needed a bit of joyfulness and fun.
For those who haven’t seen the movie, and really, who hasn’t at this point, it’s a John Hughes directed gagfest of low and highbrow humor. For those easily offended, sorry, but it was a part of its timeframe in cinema history. Oh well. You’re talking to a guy that had most of “Blazing Saddles” memorized since seeing it in high school. Everyone has those non-PC moments in their collective closet, I’m guessing.
Kudos to the Cobb for pulling this off. I suspect there will be more trivia outings in the future.
I did bone up on the movie the night before, but there were some bits of trivia that I couldn’t pull out of my, er, you know, to save my soul. That’s why they call it teamwork, kids.
Up too late for my own good, but last night I was thinking, damn, at one point in my life, we would be at some bar with our band just getting started with the second set and think nothing of it, as the night was young. Of course, that was four score and 40 years ago. That wellspring of reserve energy is long gone, Cochise.
A tip of the cap to Adam and Angie Kutz, owners of A and A Automotive, for assembling Team Kutz, or the unmentionable nickname that we came up with. I guess drinks the size of your head will set your creative juices free in so many different ways.
Happy holidays, y’all - we are just getting started.
